More than 1,000 Kenyans turned out at Karura Forest on Saturday for the second edition of the Run 4 Seniors charity race, underscoring growing public and corporate support for programmes that improve the lives of older persons across the country. The annual event, organised by Mama Ibado Charity, brought together families, fitness enthusiasts, corporate teams and community groups in a united effort to raise funds and awareness for vulnerable senior citizens.

The charity run supports initiatives that provide food assistance, healthcare and social welfare services to elderly people, particularly those living in Isiolo and Kakamega counties. Organisers said this year’s increased participation reflects a nationwide shift towards recognising the importance of protecting and caring for Kenya’s ageing population.

Mama Ibado Charity President Ahmed Jibril said the overwhelming turnout demonstrated that more Kenyans are embracing the responsibility of ensuring senior citizens live with dignity. He noted that every participant contributed to restoring hope for elderly people who have spent their lives building families, communities and the nation.

Run 4 Seniors Chairman Moses Mwangi praised participants, sponsors and development partners for helping transform the event into one of Kenya’s fastest-growing charity races. He said the initiative continues to attract organisations committed to improving the wellbeing of older persons through sustainable programmes and partnerships.

Participants competed in 5-kilometre, 10-kilometre and 15-kilometre race categories, with runners of all ages taking part. The event combined fitness with social impact, encouraging Kenyans to support vulnerable elderly citizens while promoting healthy lifestyles and social inclusion.

Corporate partners also reaffirmed their commitment to the initiative. Sidian Bank Chief Executive Officer John Okulo said supporting Run 4 Seniors goes beyond fundraising and reflects the bank’s commitment to improving access to healthcare, nutrition, psychosocial support and sustainable livelihoods for older persons. KCB Foundation Director Mendi Njonjo said the foundation would continue working alongside Mama Ibado Charity to expand the reach of programmes benefiting elderly Kenyans, while Fly748.com Head of Scheduled Services George Oduor said businesses have a responsibility to drive positive social change beyond their commercial activities.
