Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested four suspects believed to be behind the murder of a British national and a string of violent robberies targeting foreign nationals along the Coast.

The suspects, identified as Bernard Mbusu, Isaac Kinoti Kobia, Evans Muthengi Mutaki, and Kelvin Mwangi Njoroge, were arrested during an intelligence-led operation at Ideal Apartments in Ukunda. The operation involved officers from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau headquarters working together with teams from Nyali and Msambweni.

Investigators say the arrests are linked to multiple serious crimes, including a robbery with violence incident involving an American national in Nyali and the earlier abduction and killing of British national Campbell Scott Alistair, whose body was found in February 2025 in Mukuyuni along the Machakos–Wote road.

Authorities have also forensically connected the suspects to another violent robbery incident in Watamu, Malindi Sub-County, suggesting the group may have been operating across several coastal towns targeting victims.

During a search at the suspects’ residence, detectives recovered several items believed to have been stolen during the attacks. These include an HP laptop, multiple mobile phones, foreign currencies, credit cards, cheque books from different banks, and PDQ machines suspected to have been used in financial fraud.

Crime Scene Investigation officers processed the scene and secured the evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

The four suspects are currently being held at Nyali Police Station, where they are undergoing further interrogation as detectives work to establish the full extent of their operations and identify any additional victims or accomplices.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing and more arrests could follow as they continue to dismantle the network behind the crimes.
